Lakheni is a 5 year old boy who touched the hearts of all us when school opened in January. During the morning on the first day the teachers discovered that we had this child at school but we had no record of his enrolment. We let him stay for the day then at home time we discovered that the transport had made a mistake and dropped him off at the wrong school. They apologized and said that tomorrow they would take him to the right school. We didn't think anymore of it until at around eleven o'clock the next day Lakheni arrived at school hot and sweaty carrying his backpack. He was so relieved to get here and immediately came into class and hung up his bag. When we questioned him he told us that the transport had taken him to the wrong school but that this was his school and so he had walked here by himself. Talk about creating your own destiny, he had just walked 3kms to decide for himself where he wanted to be. We eventually made contact with his mother, but discovered that she was unable to pay school fees. She wanted to put him back in the government school but by now we couldn't let this happen. We took a very happy Lakheni into the school and decided to find the school fees through sponsorship. With your help we can ensure that Lakheni can stay at this school where he truly belongs.
