New Principal

In Feb 2014 Sisonke teachers met and worked alongside Valerie Barlow from New Frontiers academy as part of a reading program that they offered to our students. The teachers felt an immediate connection with Valerie, had great respect for her skills and admired her way with the students. The teachers then approached Valerie to ask her to consider joining her school New Frontiers with Sisonke school and take on a leadership / principal role.

Valeries Background

My family and I left Durban in 2002 to begin a new chapter of life in England. This was after teaching for 10 years in a range of South African Schools. We returned to South Africa, our home, in 2013 with the dream of providing high quality education to learners of Port St Johns, a town with which I have strong family ties. The educational experience, particularly in special needs, training and development that I received in the UK was also invaluable in preparing me for the challenges and joys of education management. It is only fitting then that my energy be combined with that of the rest of the Sisonke family for the betterment of the Port St Johns community. Sisonke School is now ready for the next step of greatness. I am proud to be providing leadership and management to a very dedicated staff team, with trustees who are extremely supportive.

Earlier this year (2014) Sisonke School and New Frontiers amalgamated and they now operate from 2 sites providing education for children aged 3-18 years old. The original team of teachers under the inspiring leadership of Valerie Barlow are now taking Sisonke to the next level. Exciting times are ahead...
