About the people

The people of this area are known as pondo people. They are amazing, lively resourceful people who, despite having very little still exude happiness. Their homes are traditional mud huts that they have built themselves. They walk miles everyday for work or collecting water, do all their washing by hand and cook on an open fire or a one ring paraffin burner.

Families are central to the pondo people, they help, support and care for one another in true Ubuntu style.
